December 14, 2012

Today 26 people, including 18 elementary students lost their lives tragically.
My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

I don't get it and I probably never will. Why would anyone take the lives of children or anyone for that matter? What kind of sadistic mind did this person have to do this?

Just in the last few hours I've read several articles, including the issue of gun control. Is gun control really the main issue? I personally think there are several things to blame. However, I'm not going to be the one to tell others what those causes are and how to fix them.
The fact is, I don't know HOW to fix them. I can tell you my thoughts on how to start. Let's start with pinpointing the problems in our society, which includes guns, violence, disrespect, unemployment, unfairness, ect.

Let's not also forget the 22 elementary children that were stabbed in China today as well.

The world is a dangerous place. I can't stress this enough when I say that children are our future.

What type of future are we leading them to believe in and live in? There's so much violence and chaos around the world.
I'm also ashamed that the majority of violence goes unnoticed. Here in America, we think we're invincible. Nothing can touch us, nothing can stop us.

Wake up people. Something needs to be done.

Election Day

November 6th. Election Day.
. . . . Yeah.

Well as an American citizen who enjoys the freedom and respects the rights of every American, for me this day is more than just deciding on who'll lead this country for the next four years.

As a voter, I feel the need to give thanks to those who came before me and fought for the right to vote. The men and women who put their lives on the line, the men and women who suffered through countless hours, days, years, decades, and centuries protesting against the establishment.

I have several friends who don't vote and for the life me, I just don't understand why.

I live in Texas, a predominantly Republican state. I consider myself an Independent however, if I had to choose between voting Republican or Democrat, I lean toward Democrat. I know the Republican nominee for President will win Texas but that doesn't prevent me from voting anyway.

Why?

Because I want my voice to be heard, even if there's a  strong chance it'll drown among the thralls of Republican voters.

Because it's my right that I can enjoy due to those who came before me.

I could care less who you vote for. I only care that you vote.

What do you do when nothing works?

There are plenty of writers who fill their blog with "how-to" and/or "what makes a character viable" posts. Majority of the time, these posts are very detailed and give great insight into the mind of the writer.

As a writer, I wonder if their process is the same way as my own. I wonder if they somehow become stuck in their novel, do they exhibit the same actions as myself.

I haven't made it to the top, where I want to be with my writing . . . yet.  However, I believe that all writers go through the same tribulations. As for myself, when I find myself bored or stuck in a novel I'm writing, I like to take a few days off. I either play video games, watch movies, and sometimes I'll do some research for my next novel.

What I really want to know is what do writers do when nothing works? What happens when taking a few days off and coming back to your project doesn't work? What does a writer do then? Do you continue to take time off? What if you can't take time off and you have a strict schedule to maintain? Your publisher and possibly your agent . . . do they care?

Sure, I can tell you what I'd do. I'd probably take more time off. I might force myself to write (when that happens my writing is atrocious which makes me take off more time.) Depending on how I feel, I might even abandon the novel altogether, regardless of how much I've written.

Just curious.

August 20th, 2012

For the past three weeks I've been having severe lower back pain.  At first I thought it was how I slept. I mean, that's normal right? Blame your bed? So I thought it'd go away after awhile.

One week later and the pain was unbearable. I had a hard time walking, sitting, sleeping. Taking a shower became a long , grueling process. I finally decided to go the VA to get checked out (yes, I'm a veteran.)

I took an xray, they gave me a prescription of Prednisone, Flexidril, and Ibuprofin. The doctor told me if the pain didn't go away or if it got worse, to come back immediately and schedule an CT scan.

Fast forward.

My lower back is still throbbing and now I have a CT scan on Sept 6th. Horrible.

Maris

A few years ago I had this idea for a novella. There's a character that's been sitting in the back of my brain for awhile, yelling for the spotlight.

At first, I wasn't sure how I wanted to approach it. I had several ideas: cameos, maybe a prologue or an epilogue devoted just for her. However, that would mean that she would have to have some kind of important role.

There's too much going on in Deamhan and Sensual Appetite to include her. I've tried several times and failed. (There seems to be this thing with me, including characters only to take them out later.)

Then two days ago it came to me. Why not just write a novella? I mean, I had plenty of her written down (that I had to take out from Deamhan and Sensual Appetite) to have a good start. Why not just devote a novella to her? That way, when I finally decide to include her, possibly in the 3rd novel, there would be enough of her out there already for the reader to know.

The working title is "Maris - The Brotherhood Files." So far, I'm having a blast and I've already added about 8,000 words. I'm enjoying her storyline more than I am Sensual Appetite. I hope to include her in the third Deamhan novel. But for now, I think she's a strong stand alone character.

Back from Vacation!

For those that know, I have another hobby I spend much of my time on.

Playing video games professionally.

Around this time, there are several video game tournaments being held around America and the world which makes my schedule difficult to maintain. Being a professional sponsored video game player, I have to attend much of these events.

In June, I attended an event in Florida. In July there were two event I had to attend; one in Las Vegas and one in the Caribbean. I've been to Vegas plenty of times but the Caribbean was my first.

OH MY GOD. The Caribbean was wonderful!

I'm not going to spend much time telling you how it was. I have a separate facebook account dedicated slowly to my professional video game life. However, I just want to say that I'm back and in full swing of editing my novel and getting ready to send it out to a publisher.

It's just hard to go from blue waters, sandy beaches, late night beach parties, and video games to sitting in front of my computer, staring at Microsoft Word, in a dark house with my cats constantly meowing.

June 10th, 2012

Last Sunday I found myself wanting more at the Season Finale of Game of Thrones.
This weekend I find myself in the same predicament with the Season Premiere of TruBlood.

For those that don't watch the show, missed the last episode of last season, or haven't caught up to the end of last season- well, things have changed a little. Sookie is still annoying, Bill and Eric still fight for Sookie's love and attention blah blah blah.

However, I'm curious about Tara. She's one of my favorite characters on the show, besides Lafayette and Jason. During the last episode, she was shot by Debbie who aimed for Sookie. Sookie then shot Debbie. The viewers were left with Sookie cradling a bloody Tara on the kitchen floor, calling for help.

Like many other viewers, I wondered if Tara was dead or perhaps, turned. I'm hoping that she survives either way. Writing her character off the show would be a great disservice to the fans in my opinion.

I'm also looking forward to Christopher Meloni's character this season and more explanation on the Authority. I love Meloni from Law and Order and seeing him in TruBlood, as a vampire, really juices up the show for me.

Oh and the return of Russell Edgington . . . Hmm how I love me some Russell.

My week at a glance

So this week has been hectic.

It started with my trip to Toronto. If you don't know by now, besides writing I also play video games . . . professionally.

Yes, it can be done and people are sponsored do it. So in my case, I don't have to pay for trip, hotel, or entry fees into the tournament. All I need to worry about is spending money for food, shopping ect.

I spent the whole weekend there and left Monday. I didn't do as good as I wanted to in the tournament. However, I had a blast. I was one of 3 American players there. I was treated well (like royalty) and I didn't want to leave.

This weekend I was supposed to go to Chicago for another tournament. On my way to Dallas my tire blew, ruining my rotor. I decided to skip the Chicago tournament and to get my car fixed. My boyfriend was also a little upset that I was leaving two weekends in a row. I was only  home for two days before I had to leave.

So I have a free weekend and I'm going to spend it writing, catching up on life, and relaxing with my boyfriend because next week I have to start training to prepare for another tournament in mid June in Orlando.
